It occurred to me, last night, as I was failing to sleep. That the replica probably warrents another essay at this point. They don't play a LOT (it'd kind of be weird if they did tho) but whenever they do SOMETHING always shifts, just a little, and a year later Riku, at least, is in a different place.
The main MAIN DIFFERENCE here is I think Riku finally figured out that maybe the replica is actually an individual, despite looking exactly like Riku. IT HELPS that the replica isn't yelling at him about stealing his life or trying to attack him every time he sees him, since for Riku that was really always the main BLOCK. He's really, kind of gradually, beginning to understand that the ways the replica is different from him aren't defects (though they are KIND OF ANNOYING he still doesn't like the crying it's just creepy) but rather you know. individuality.
I wouldn't say he likes the replica. He still doesn't like it going by his name. And WOULDN'T MIND if it would make an effort to look different. He still finds the "that thing looks EXACTLY LIKE (younger) ME" to be. Eerie. But is overall pretty used to the situation he's found himself in. He still is an asshole to the replica, but this is standard for Riku and while I wouldn't say, in this case, 'it means he likes you' at least it's not loathing either!
I don't think Riku and the Replica can ever really be friends. At least, not any time soon. And Riku REALLY HOPES he isn't stuck around the fake ten years down the line. But if they aren't at each other's throats they manage to get along okay. And by 'get along' I mean Riku harrasses in a slightly more gentle way and the Fake yells and cries.

Deep in Riku's heart, yeah he's kind of a tad resentful. He'll NEVER EVER GIVE THE FAKE THE PLEASURE OF HEARING HIM ADMIT THAT. And if Riku is ACTUALLY AWARE OF IT he's very good at ignoring it. But the truth is the Fake is simply a better person than him. For all his cheerful joy in using Darkness, the Fake is way closer to the Light. The Fake also never did HORRIBLE THINGS you can never really be forgiven for. The Fake is well liked by a lot of people, including Riku's friends, and it wouldn't matter AT ALL if. he weren't. you know. a replica of Riku. It's more or less a constant reminder that Riku himself really isn't that nice, isn't good at making friends, and isn't widely liked. Basically, his annoying childish replica that spent the better part of a year trying to kill him is more popular and that kind of stings. More popular for good reasons and that stings even more.
It also kind of annoys him that the Fake keeps spreading his skewed version of things. He's gotten 'confronted' at least twice by people who wanted to protect the replica from his big bad original and. THE THING IS. Killing the replica is like. The one thing he doesn't really feel bad about.
Sure, when he killed him? He felt bad in that "this is a sad thing" sort of way. But not HORRIBLE GUILT. LIKE HE FEELS ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE. Riku knew the replica for literally like. A half hour if you count battle time. They didn't have long, deep discussions, detailed explinations, and the replica did pretty much nothing to, from Riku's point of view, individualize himself. The replica immediately attacked him! Told him he was the better one! Harrassed him for not wanting to use Darkness! And if, at the second meeting, Riku could guess that something was a bit off, he had no reason to sit there and listen to his sob story. PRETTY MUCH ONLY A JESUS WOULD DO THAT. So. Sora or Kairi, Y? MOST OTHER PEOPLE? Assume the thing that looks like him and prays on his fears and tells him it's better and THEN ATTACKS HIM while he's in STRANGE ENEMY TERRITORY is, infact, AN ENEMY and needs to be killed.
So. The thing is. Riku has done a lot of horrible things! And he admits that! He just doesn't think killing the Replica was one of them and it annoys him people keep getting on his case about it.
Of course, deep, deep in his heart he might sense that something can be Wrong even while still being Perfectly Justified. But he won't ever admit that even to himself. Riku doesn't really need yet another sin.
BUT he's not like, deeply enraged over that it just makes him sort of defensive and pissy.
That all said, though, while he doesn't consider the replica friends or anything. He probably won't kill him again (outside of possible cracky/comedy situations). Not because he doesn't want to cause the replica pain!!1 but Riku realizes arbitarily killing someone he recognizes as human and alive is kind of dickish even for him.
He's still more than happy to beat him into the ground though.

Canon: Roughly one year ago Riku was a nice, normal, only mildly sociopathic boy who sacrificed his world and everyone on it (minus his two best friends) to Darkness in a fit of cabin fever. His descent into darkness resulted in him becoming progressively more bitchy and badly dressed, until Our Hero Sora took him out and locked him on the other side of a big door for the sake offashion victims everywhere the Worlds.
After this royal ass-kicking, Riku holed up in the dark for a while and had a crisis of conscience. "I feel really bad about everything I did, my friends will never love me again, I can never face the Light, I smell bad..." etc. Fortunately, Mickey Mouse showed up and -- in all his classic D*sney glory -- basically told Riku there is always hope, take a bath, and stop whining. Consequently, Riku makes happy faces every time Mickey shows up, which just goes to show even little teenage world destroyers just need someone to have faith in them to make everything right.
Riku really does do his best to make amends for what he's done, if not in the most traditional of ways. He learns to accept both Darkness and Light, setting him down the path to Twilight, and as that term suggests his methods of 'helping' are not always particularly kind. Riku's priorities (along with his universe) are centered almost entirely on Sora and Kairi, their safety, and their happiness. And while Riku still has plenty of deep, dark emo crawling in his skin, he regains much of his old self -- cocky, confident, playful and snarky. And still incapable of dressing himself. He really should have stuck with black.

You know, I don't think I've ever been this glad to see land. Or at least I never expected I'd be happy to see a slimey, smelly, monster infested dump like this. This is what I get for letting Sora choose where to spend our vacation -- nice job, numbskull. He could have picked Wonderland, Atlantica, or Christmas Town, and instead has the bright idea to take Kairi to a swamp. Not just any swamp, either. It has to be one with a camp that runs in winter and has a sketchy background that's suspiciously made up of mostly zombies, and zombies, and more zombies.
I guess I figured it was a theme park at first; hard to think otherwise when there are purple gorillas in security uniforms, right? Then one of them asked me how tall you had to be to ride The Riku and I changed my mind. Anything that bleeds that much has gotta be real.
Looks like the barrier around this place is real enough, too. Leave it to Sora to find an adult rated world and get us stuck on it. The King's gummi ship probably would have been enough to get us out of here, if I still had it. Too bad a certain someone never bothered to mention the finer points of gummi ship travel. Little things, like them being flying deathtraps navigated by chipmunks who steer directly into the first radioactive lake they see, are the kinda things I'd like to read about in a manual. Oh, and? Not only are gummi blocks apparently edible, but they also have a lot more holes than you would think. Your lake monster is going to be enjoying itself for a while.

Riku wields a keyblade called 'Way to the Dawn'. As far as physical combat goes, he's very fast when he needs to be, can occasionally defy gravity, is a very competent sword fighter and can pretty much top anyone from Kingdom Hearts except for Roxas or Sora. But when you get right down to it, in sword combat, Riku is probably more skilled than Sora. However, Riku has no magic abilities. He does have an endless amount of potions and the Darkness. With Darkness he has two obvious attacks: The first is a ball of darkness which knocks people back, but doesn't do any damage. The second is a barrier which can stand up to nearly any attack, but only lasts for a few seconds before he has to stop and do it again. Neither of these are particularly tiring for him and he can do them indefinitely.
Riku also has a number of cool keyblade tricks, and can work together with Sora to do omega power attacks.
Also, Riku can 'smell' darkness, so he'll know bad people are bad right away.
